Hybrid: New York, this position requires a minimum of 3 days in the office to promote collaboration and interaction with onsite associates.
Salary Range: $100,000 - $170,000 and bonus incentive

 

Job Overview

The Senior Underwriter is responsible for maintaining and growing a profitable portfolio within the knowledge of the private company management liability lines of business in accordance with Old Republic Professional’s underwriting strategies and objectives. This role includes making recommendations on common coverage requests, clearly explaining key coverage offerings and wording to brokers, and demonstrating a deeper understanding of the industry, including trends, competition, market share, basic insurance accounting, and Old Republic Professional (ORPRO) results.

This position is visible and important role, working collaboratively with colleagues to develop business with key distribution partners throughout the United States. The Senior Underwriter will be able to make an immediate impact with the backing of an experienced and supportive team.

 

Job Responsibilities

In addition to the duties and responsibilities of an Underwriter, the role of a Senior Underwriter includes the following:

  • The ability to develop a solid pipeline of new business opportunities and successfully
  • target new business.
  • Actively participate in underwriting calls and meetings, cultivating relationships with insureds.
  • Create innovative solutions and craft polices to fit specific client needs while maintaining a high level of underwriting integrity.
  • Develop a higher understanding of the competitive landscape and use such knowledge to improve ORPROs access to more profitable business.
  • Work independently to manage a book of business.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of underwriting appetite, recognize and understand nuances related to exceptions, and provide meaningful price recommendations based on risk and coverage.
  • Lead relationships with individual brokers and assigned brokerage offices, independently developing and cultivating new business opportunities.
  • Develop and formulate specific marketing plans within an assigned book or region identifying opportunities for portfolio growth and diversification.
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain a profitable book of business while simultaneously seeking out new growth opportunities.
  • Serve as a resource for newer Underwriters and Analysts, providing basic training when requested.
  • Ability to review an Underwriter’s or Analyst’s checklists work for accuracy.
  • Adhere to ORPRO’s operational guidelines and codes of conduct.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience underwriting.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Strong analytical skills, business models, operations, financial statements, and industry trends of financial services companies required.
  • The ability to develop relationships with our highly valued distribution partners in their assigned territory and throughout the country.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to handle multiple assignments with attention to detail, and work under quick timelines.
  • A sense of curiosity and a commitment to excellence and to superior customer service is
  • essential.
  • The ability to understand complex coverage terms unique to financial services companies required.
  • A strong desire to market to a diverse retail and wholesale agency base and demonstrate professional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • An ability to negotiate pricing, terms and conditions, and evaluate complex multi-line deal
  • structures for private companies is essential.
  • Regional travel required.
